RADICAL SHIFTS IN LINE-UP OF CRIMSON BASKETBALL QUINTET

BLACK AND RUDOFSKY MOVE UP TO TEAM A BACKFIELD

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yesterday afternoon, Coach Wachter sent his entire squad through a long practice session to eliminate the faults shown Tuesday night in the opening contest with the Connecticut Agricultural College five. The chief weakness found that the team in this game was the fact that the defence men failed to cover their men carefully with the result that the opposing forwards slipped in many baskets almost unopposed.

Laying great emphasis on remedying this point, Coach Wachter also gave careful coaching to the work of the center and forwards, particularly in playing follow-up shots. In the first game Fitts, at center, got the tap nearly every time on the jump but there was a marked weakness on the part of the forwards in getting hold of the ball and carrying it down the court.

Three Shifts in Line-Up

A rather radical shift in the line-up has been necessitated by the fact that Captain McLeish sprained his ankle in yesterday's scrimmage and probably will not be able to play again until after Christmas. As a result of this injury, Coach Wachter will probably send Fitts to the forward berth, Tyson coming up from the second team to assume the duties of first string center. Two other changes have also been made in the make-up of the quintet, Rudofsky and Black of last year's Yearling five, replacing Feiring and Sipp in the back-field.

Although the loss of McLeish will weaken the team to some extent, it will not be extremely serious, for Coach Wachter has on hand a large group of substitute forwards, all of whom are but slightly below the standard of the first team men.

Although the Freshman five do not play their first contest until after the Christmas vacation, Coach Tolbert has been bringing his men along rapidly. At present the Yearling squad consists of a first string squad of 46 men and a large dormitory group, which really constitutes a second squad. As was the case in football last tall men on the dormitory squad will be carefully watched and as soon as their playing warrants will be shifted to the first string group.
