CENTER WINS CLOSELY CONTESTED GAME WITH CRIMSON FIVE BY 41 TO 36 SCORE

McLeish and Chase Account for All But Ten of Crimson's Points--McMillin Plays Clever Passing Game

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Playing a superb passing and accurate shooting game, the Centre College quintet put down the University five in the hardest fought game seen on the home court this year, by a 41 to 36 score last night at the Hemenway Gymnasium. The highly praised Colonels fully lived up to their reputation and gained revenge for their 31-14 defeat at the hands of Coach Fisher's eleven last fall.

Coach Wachter's men put up a game fight throughout the contest and several times took the lead, but weak defensive play on the part of the center and forwards and hurried passing allowed the Kentuckians to go to the fore. An injury to Tyson, who was playing center for the Crimson, at the critical time was a severe setback for the University team and a few minutes before the end of the second period the Centre team regained its five-point lead which it held to the end.

Maver, who caged five baskets and counted eleven times on free tries, played a sterling game for the Blue Grass men, and McMillin, although be failed to count heavily in the scoring column, was quick thinking, and his passing allowed his running mate, Bedford, to count several times. McLeish played a whirlwind game for the Crimson, caging six baskets, five of which came in the initial period. In the second half, the Colonels kept such close watch of him that Fitts was enabled to break away for successful shots four times. Fourteen points out of twenty-one tries from the foul line by Chase kept the home team in the running.

University in Lead at Start

At the start of the game the University jumped into the lead when McLeish caged a basket and Chase followed with a point from the foul line. But from then on the lead see-sawed back and forth the at the end of the session the visitors had a six-point advantage.

In the second half the Crimson came back with a rush and overcame the Southerners' lead, but were again passed. When Tyson was hurt, Doolittle went in at center, but Colonels' defense and the final whistle blew when the score stood 41-36.
