Spring football practice, which started three weeks ago with a squad of forty men, later increasing to sixty, will end today with a stiff scrimmage under the personal supervision of Coach R. T. Fisher '12, who has been absent from Soldiers Field since the beginning of the week. Scrimmages have been going on daily since a week ago Wednesday, and this afternoon's work-out will clear up all doubts in the minds of Coaches Fisher and Knox as to who from the spring squad will be picked to come back early next fall for the regular University practice.
In yesterday's half-hour scrimmage Team B had the edge over A almost the entire time, F. W. Pratt '23 scoring the only touchdown of the day against the latter eleven after a brilliant forward-passing advance down the field. During the last few minutes of the scrimmage, however, Team A, with powerful rushes by K. S. Pfaffman '24 and W. H. Churchill '23 carried the ball within fifteen yards of their opponents' goal only to be prevented from scoring by the calling of practice.
Team B's touchdown was made as a direct result of a clever pass from F. H. Hovey '23 to J. S. Greenberg Unc., who carried the ball to within easy striking distance. On the next play, Pratt, quarterback on B, went over the line despite the efforts of L. W. Post '23 and H. S. Grew '24, who throughout the afternoon proved themselves reliable linesmen. The line-ups:
Team A.--L.e., Miller; l.t., Saxton; l.g., Reynolds; c., Post; r.g., Grew; r.l., Harrington; r.e., Key; q.b., Humphrey; l.h.f., Churchill; r.h.b., Nichols; f.b., Pfaffman.
Team B.--L.e., Barton; l.t., Potter; l.g., Wagner; c., Wood; r.g., Cogan; r.t., Woodworth; r.e., Sprague; q.b., Pratt; l.h.b., Giroux; r.h.b., Greenberg; f.b., Hovey.
