FRESHMAN OPPOSE HOLY CROSS PLAYERS

Coach Young May Shift Yearling Infield to Strengthen Defensive Play--Purple Cubs Have Strong Team to Send Against Crimson

Facing the Holy Cross 1924 baseball team at Worcester this afternoon, the yearling nine will have to show less errors and greater hitting power than they have so far in order to come out on top. The Purple cubs have proved themselves clever-ball players this season, especially when they topped the fast Exeter nine 5-4. They will also have the advantage of playing on their home field, while the strangeness of the ground may make the Freshmen's generally unsteady defence work tellingly erratic.

Coach Young was uncertain for a long time whom to start in the box against Dean. He finally decided on K. N. Hill, and so, E. L. Gherke, although he pitched the last two innings on Thursday, is slated to go out on the mound in the opening session against Holy Cross. It is more than possible that the infield, which has been unchanged for the past three games, will be radically shifted, F. S. Hill replacing T. M. Carnegie at third, and the latter going to right field. This change was tried out in practice yesterday afternoon, in an effort-to strengthen the left corner of the infield. Carnegie is an excellent batter, and as such is valuable but his work at third base is not very steady, while Hill, during the time he filled the second base position, proved himself a reliable fielder.
