TO HOLD TRIALS FOR DEBATING TEAM ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 13

Preparation for Triangular Debate with Syracuse and Pittsburgh on February 25 to Begin at That Time

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Preliminary trials for the University debating team will be held on Friday, January 13, at 6.30 o'clock in Harvard 6. There will be a further and final trial on Monday, January 16 at the same time and place. The Debating Council urges all men who are interested in debating to report. Since the lack of experienced men makes it imperative that as many candidates as possible try for the team all undergraduates, including Freshmen, are eligible for the team.

The candidates will be expected to make a five-minute speech on either side of the following question: "Resolved That the United States should cancel in full the war debts of the allied powers." The trials will be held in order to choose nine men to represent the University, for two teams of three men each and three alternates.

The team thus formed will take part in a triangular debate on February 25 with Pittsburgh and Syracuse, the former at Pittsburgh and the latter at Albany. The subject for this debate will be the same as that used in the trials next week. The trials will also serve as preparation for the fourteenth annual triangular debate with Princeton and Yale, to be held on March 24. The subject has not yet been announced.

Only four men with experience on the University teams are available this season. They are R. S. Fanning '23, B. H. Kuhns '22, C. W. Phelps '22, and S. A. Rosenblatt '22.

Any men who desire further information on the coming trials should communicate with C. W. Phelps '22 at Weld 37.
