Dr. Howe and Coach H. H. Haines addressed a meeting of 125 Freshman oarsmen in Smith Halls Common Room yesterday evening.

The need of care in handling the boats was first emphasized by Dr. Howe who cited the great cost of equipment.

Coach H. H. Haines gave the men general and detailed instruction in the fundamentals of rowing. He used the "quiz" cards to explain the various fixtures of the boat, the stretcher, seat, and riggers, making clear the function of each part. He followed this with directions as to the use of the oars, and the regulation of the stroke.
