DEFENSIVE WORK AND EXPERIMENTATION ARE FEATURES OF PRACTICE

TEAM B SCORES TWICE AGAINST BLACK JERSEYED PLAYERS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Coach Fisher spent yesterday's practice perfecting the defensive strength of team A and experimenting with various end and tackle candidates in an effort to find the strongest combination to send against the heavy Holy Cross eleven on Saturday.

Team A lined up for the scrimmage work against the second of Coach Knox's black-jerseyed elevens with Fitts and Hartley at left and right end respectively, Dunker and Eastman at tackle, Grew and R. S. Hubbard Jr. at guard, Bradford center, Buell quarterback, and Coburn, Owen, and Gehrke in the backfield. The positions not yet definitely filled appear to be right end and right guard. Hartley or Hill will probably start in the former position Saturday with either R. S. Hubbard Jr. or C. J. Hubbard in at right guard.

Buell Runs 50 Yards for Score

The second eleven was given the ball at the opening of the scrimmage on its 20-yard line and punted to Buell who ran 50 yards for a touchdown. The ball was then given team A on the seconds 20-yard line. On the first play Gehrke scored, but the ball was brought back because of an offside. In three successive plays the ball was advanced to the three yard line and Gehrke then carried it over for the second score.

Coach Knox's men were then given the ball on the 50-yard line. Gehrke intercepted a forward pass on the first play and ran it back 25 yards. The ball was moved to the 20-yard line where the seconds attempted a drop-kick, which was blocked by Eastman. Fitts recovered the ball and raced the length of the field for the third score.

Fisher Sends in Team B

Coach Fisher then sent in team B with Crosby and Gordon ends, Greenough and Theopold, tackles, Tower and Miller guards, Post center, Green quarterback, and Churchill, Doherty, and Harlow in the backfield. Scrimmage was started on the 40-yard line. Churchill circled right end on the opening play for 25 yards and Doherty scored on the next on a line plunge. The ball was brought to the 20-yard line and Doherty ran it back to the one-yard line. An off-tackle play, with Harlow carrying the ball, resulted in the final score.
