Have Small Advantage Over Strong Freshman Sextet--Beals and Captain Hodder Show Up Well--Yearlings' Team-Work Greatly Improved

The University hockey team was able to overcome one of the strongest combinations that Coach Humphrey has been able to put on the ice by a small margin in the close scrimmage at the Arena yesterday afternoon. The Freshmen had the advantage of sending a fresh team against skaters who were still worn out from the taxing struggle with the B. A. A. In addition, Owen and Martin were out of the University line-up, resting from their strenuous work, so the team was not up to its fighting strength. The yearlings, on the other hand, had reached a peak in their development. Their team-work had greatly improved in every department, and in addition flashes of individual stardome added the element of surprise to the Freshman attack. Beals showed that he was capable of well controlled speed, while Hodder and Burgess proved that they, too, could do more than make up part of the machine.

Guild and Ladd, who were recently advanced to the University squad, had their first work-out with their new team mates yesterday, and showed promise of valuable work as soon as they are accustomed to their surroundings and the new style of play.
