ROHODE ISLAND STATE SWAMPED BY CRIMSON

Russell Pitches Entire Game, Allowing Only Six Singles and One Walk--Strikes Out Five Men

Every man on the University baseball team, including four substitutes, netted at least one run apiece and Clark, Gonlon. Gordon, and Hallock drove out homers yesterday afternoon, when the Crimson crushed the Rhode Island State nine under a 22 to 3 victory at Soldiers Field.

Russell worked smoothly during the entire nine innings and allowed only six singles. The third batter who faced him was the only visitor who walked, while five men struck out and no one reached second after the fifth inning.

The 17 Crimson hits tell the story of the weak visiting pitching staff. Edwards led off but was relieved after Gordon's home run in the second, by Turner, who allowed seven singles for nine runs in the next four innings. M. Smith then took Turner's place and let in eight runs, two by wild pitches.

The play of the University infield was ragged in the opening innings and all three of the visitors' runs were helped around the circuit by Crimson errors. The Rhode Island State team likewise had a total of six errors chalked up against it, all of which aided the University scoring.

The big University rallies came in the second and eighth innings when all nine men came up to bat and brought home six seven runs respectively.
