The preliminary rounds of the Massachusetts State Squash Racquets Tournament, held at the Harvard Club, were finished yesterday. The great majority of the University players won their matches.
W. P. Dixon '25 was at the top of his game winning from O. T. Russell '11 in an extremely well played match. Dixon advanced to the second round by a default from M. A. Blackmore, who in the preliminary round had won from Darragh Louderback '24. E. M. Hinkle '23, after trailing two games to one, caught and defeated F. W. Buxton '00. The greatest surprise of the first round was the defeat of E. S. Church, the strong Newton Centre player, in straight games by Carroll Harrington '24. Continuing the fine form, which featured his play during the latter part of the inter-club series, J. J. Glessner '25 won his preliminary and first round matches, defeating H. C. Gould in the latter round.
