J. K. Watson '23 and C. J. Shearn Jr. '23 won the gold medals for the epee and sabre championships respectively in the University fencing tournament at the Hemenway gymnasium yesterday afternoon. The tournament, including the foils championship which was won Tuesday by E. H. Lane '24, captain of the University fencing team, is the final event of the 1923 fencing season.
Watson, winning six of his seven matches in the epee event, was closely pressed by Burke Boyce 1G., C. J. Shearn Jr. '23, and E. L. Lane '24 with five victories each. As a result of extra matches, Shearn captured the silver medal for second place with Boyce third.
Watson was runner-up to Shearn in the sabres.
