For the first time this season Captain Duane played match singles yesterday afternoon in the University's 7-2 defeat of Pennsylvania. Because of doctor's orders Duane has played only in the doubles matches since his trip abroad last summer on the Harvard-Yale tennis tour of England, but yesterday he entered as number two man and defeated his opponent, Norvell, 6-0, 3-6, 6-1.

Beard of Pennsylvania sprang the surprise of the afternoon when he overcame Pfaffman, 6-3, 6-4. Beard was again fortunate when he and Moran scored Pennsylvania's second point by defeating Briggs and Dixon, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

The results of the other matches are as follows:

Singles.--Ingraham (H) defeated Morgan (P), 6-1, 6-2; Guild (H) defeated Lingelbach (P), 6-4, 3-6, 6-4; Briggs (B) defeated Steele (P), 6-2, 6-2; Bondi (H) defeated Moran, 6-2, 6-4.

Doubles.--Duane and Ingraham defeated Morgan and Norvell, 6-1, 6-3; Guild and Pfaffman defeated Lingelbach and Steele, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
