Emerging from its slump of the past two weeks, the University basketball team played Brown to a standstill last night and won a decisive 41 to 27 victory.
Smith was brilliant on the offense, scoring eight goals from the floor and two from the foul line. Captain Gordon registered six goals and showed considerable improvement in his defensive play, which has been lax in recent games. Maher, playing his first full game at guard, speeded up the attack perceptibly. His clever passes to Smith led directly to four of the latter's goals.
For Brown, Chaffee and Captain Wagenknecht were the individual stars. Rudofsky's effective guarding kept the latter's score down, but he succeeded in sinking two spectacular long shots. The Brunonians made the most of their opportunities from the foul-line, tallying nine out of a possible ten by this method.
The summary: Score; Harvard 41, Brown 27, Goals from the floor, Smith 8, Gordon 6, Rudofsky 3, Rauh, Chaffee 3, Wagenknecht 2, Tuckerman 2, Hayes, Fellman. Goals from fouls, Smith 2, Gordon 2, Rudofsky, Hayes 3, Wagenknecht 2, Chaffee 2, Fellman, Danzell. Referee, McGuinness Umpire, Hoyt. Time, 20-minute halves.
