CHEEK HEADS COMMITTEE TO ASSIGN SENIOR ROOMS

ROOMS WERE ASSIGNED STRICTLY BY LOT LAST YEAR

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

M. A. Cheek '26 is chairman of the 1926 Senior Dormitory Committee which was appointed at the last meeting of the Student Council. The other members of the committee are: Thayer Cummings '26, R. H. Field '26, N. S. Howe '26, J. J. Maher '26, S. deJ. Osborne '26, and Davidson Sommers '26.

The committee will have charge of the assignment of the rooms in Holworthy, Hollis. Stoughton. Grays, Thayer, and remodelled Massachusetts to the various members of the Junior class for occupation next year. The committee will probably not distribute the rooms in the new Holden Dormitories, as the construction is unlikely to be completed by that time.

Will Assign Rooms in January

Shortly after the first meeting of the committee all Juniors will be asked to hand in applications for rooms in the Senior Dormitories next year, and the committee will assign the rooms and announce the result of the allotment by the latter part of January.

The exact method of alloting the rooms is still in doubt. Up to last year the committee was accustomed to assign the rooms according to the prominence of the men wishing to occupy them, such men getting the most desirable sultes. An attempt was also made to assign men who were acquainted with each other to rooms in the same building or in the same entry.

Last year the rooms were allotted strictly according to lot. The applications were sorted into groups according to their size, the largest being drawn for first, the next largest second, etc. Thus, no effort was made to put congenial groups in the same dormitory and the prominence of the men applying was not taken into consideration.

Discussion has arisen this year as to which of these two methods is the best, some men declaring that the old method produces better satisfaction among the members of the class, and others maintaining that the new method is more democratic.
