A CREW STORY

The New York Times of yesterday contained the startling headline "Follies Girls Teach Columbia's Crew". News of this sort can't be passed by with the yawn one gives the stock quotations or the latest revolution in Guatemala. Such a headline has all the marks of the advertising man's handiwork. The attention-compelling novelty of the idea makes one read on and on--to see just what it is the Follies girls teach Columbia's crew.

Since Salome's time, many a man has lost his head over a pretty pair of legs and a smile. It is not to be wondered at, therefore, that Columbia oarsmen have turned to the ballet during the tedious winter months. Tank rowing is said to be a terrible grind. And who is better qualified to develop rhythm and form than a Ziegfeld beauty?

Perhaps when the spring thaw comes, the Sunday rotogravure section will show the blithesome Columbia crew frolicking about the float like male Pavlowa's, while leading the aesthetic dare a Follies girl in front-page-cover-in Judge costume beckons.

"Come, and trip it as you go.

On the light fantastic toe."
