YALE'S REBELLIAD

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Reprinted in these columns are excerpts from communications of two Yale graduates to the New York Times which were published in that paper May 23 and 25 respectively. Yale is to be congratulated for having among its alumni spirits fearless enough and loyal enough to defend what they consider the best interests of the university even against the administration itself.

College authorities are not prone to welcome such printed criticism. Alumni cannot always be right. But the sincerity manifested in these letters is a healthy sign. Even college presidents are not infallible, and they cannot go far wrong, or go wrong for long, when a staunch and active body of alumni is alert to the situation.

Harvard graduates, too, have criticized with great frankness during the current year, but in doing so they have proved the truth of the saying that "when they censure most severely, then's when they love Harvard best."
