Due to illness, Mr. E. A. Filene, President of the William Filene's Sons Company of Boston, has been forced to cancel his speaking engagements, and it will be impossible for him to deliver his address Friday night at the Phillips Brooks House on "American Business and World Peace."
Mr. Filene, who has just returned from Europe where he has been studying economic conditions for several months, is not seriously ill but his physicians have advised several weeks rest after his long tour. The Boston business man has been devoting his efforts during the last few years in untiring effort towards world peace. During his recent stay in Europe he has been investigating the condition of business and industry, as well as working in the interests of international peace.
The League to Enforce Peace, of which Mr. Filene has been actively connected with since 1915, has been one of the many organizations through which he has directed his efforts toward world peace. During the war he was a director of the United States Chamber of Commerce and also chairman of the War Shipping Commission.
