Hanover, N. H., Oct. 19--Captain Horton, who has been suffering for some time with a weak ankle, gave the injured member a bad twist during dummy scrimmage this afternoon, and had to retire, his place at fullback being taken by Black, a substitute who has shown great promise in his play so far this season. A star on last year's Freshman team, he took his place in the Green backfield against Yale last week when the Dartmouth backs had worked the ball within the ten yard line, and took the pigskin over for his team's only tally.
Holleran, in fine shape, was back at his old berth at right tackle, and seems to be a likely starter in the Crimson till next Saturday.
Coach Hawley gave the Green teams long workout this afternoon, but did not order a regular scrimmage. Both teams A and B were given an apparatus drill, and then took part in a long signal practice. Lane and MacPhail, powerful plunging backs, showed considerable speed, and Dooley was successful in completing forward passes. Coach Smith has been drilling a team on Harvard plays, and these will probably be used against the University team in a stiff scrimmage tomorrow
