DARTMOUTH ABANDONS FOUR MORE FIRST YEAR SPORTS

As one of the most drastic measures in its policy of retrenchment, the Athletic Council of Dartmouth College has abolished all Freshman sports except football. Last spring six sports, soccer, tennis, lacrosse, swimming, golf, and cross country, were dropped from the Freshman athletic program, while the latest ruling has done away with four more of them.

The sports which have been abandoned this week are: basketball, hockey, track, and baseball. More than $15,000 is expected to be saved by the abolition of these ten sports. Due to the drop in football receipts this fall, the budget of the athletic council has been running considerably behind, necessitating this drastic retrenchment.
