Award Of 38 Scholarships And David A. Wells Prize Announced

Instructor in Economics Given Award For Research--Bates Receives Hodges Prize

Thirty-eight scholarships for the second half of the current academic year, an Economics thesis prize award, and a Medical School travelling fellowship were announced at University Hall Saturday. Of the Scholarships, 16 were in the Medical School, 20 in the Law School, one in the Engineering School, and one in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

The David A. Wells Prize in Economics, consisting of $500, for the best thesis embodying the results of original investigation, has been awarded to H. D. White, instructor and tutor in economics. The subject of his thesis was "French International Accounts: 1880-1913". Dr. C. W. Heath '22, of Boston, was the recipient of the William O. Moseley Travelling Fellowship for the study of medicine abroad during the academic year 1932-33.

D. M. Bates 1G, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, received the Priscilla Clark Hodges Scholarship, while the Clifford M. Holland Memorial Aid was awarded to J. J. Guiahino '35. Harvard Law School Association Scholarships were received by the following first year Law School students: J. P. Blaisdell, of Claremont, California; E. A. Haight, of Rockford, Illinois; J. F. Harding, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; R. A. McLaughlin, of West Roxbury; J. M. Murtagh, of New York City; C. F. Steele, of Buffalo, New York; P. W. Steer, of Parkersburg, West Virginia; and Nolan Thorpe, of Brooklyn, New York.

Other scholarships awarded to first year law students were: Shelton Hale: to A. L. Dougan, of St. Louis, Missouri; Herbert Parker: to E. H. Kent, of Newtonville; Robert T. Swaine: to R. H. Lindman, of Santa Ana, California; Sidney Thompson Fairchild: to E. E. Ford, of New York City; William Cheney Brown: to G. H. Schwartz, of Sea Gate, New York; Harvard Law School Association of New York: to K. C. Davis, of Spokane, Washington; and A. M. Johnson, of Rosholy, Wisconsin; Faculty Scholarships: to B. S. Jefferson, of Los Angeles, California; J. W. Kelleher, of Berea, Ohio; and C. E. Rhetts, of Brooklyn, New York.

In the Medical School, the David Williams Cheever Scholarship was awarded to J. R. Mote 1M., of Tuscon, Arizona, and the Charlotte Greene Scholarship to D. G. Friend 1M., of Missouri Valley, Iowa. Each of the following first year Medical School students received George Haven Scholarships: L. M. Bell, of Dozier, Alabama; A. W. Cowan, of Bristol, Tennessee; E. J. Croce, of Worcester; L. A. Giffin, of West Hartford, Connecticut; M. T. Gilmour, of Wilmington, North Carolina; J. H. Grindlay, of Youngstown, Chio; D. T. Hall, of Seattle, Washington; G. M. Jorgensen, of Minden, Nebraska; C.
