COACH CARR RETAINS 14 ON VARSITY SOCCER TEAM

Squad of Promising Material Faces Yale Twice This Season--Freshmen Turn Out in Great Numbers

By a drastic cut in his unusually large squad of 35 men, Coach J. F. Carr yesterday narrowed his attention to 14 men who will compose Harvard's Varsity soccer team. An unusually difficult schedule faces these men, but Coach Car is very enthusiastic about his material. The Varsity squad, as it now stands, ha six lettermen, and the remaining eight are mostly stars from last years' spectacular Freshman team.

The schedule is now completed for the Crimson varsity, and holds an innovation in that it includes a series with Yale, instead of the customary single game. One game is slated with the Blue in New Haven on November 19, and one is to be played here on November 24. The Harvard booters will meet Princeton this year, for the first time since athletic relations were broken off in 1926. This game will come on October 28. Captain A. T. T. Schumacher '33 will also lead his men against Penn State, Dartmouth, Brown, and M. I. T. as well as lesser institutions.

A most surprising turn-out for Freshman soccer resulted from the call for 1936 aspirants. The 55 men, a crowd of 20 more than the standing record of Freshman soccer squads at Harvard, will be divided into first and second squads. A second Freshman team will be formed for the first time and will play M.I.T., Watertown High School, Concord High, and Tillston Academy. The regular Freshman team has a grueling series of games beginning with the Watertown High clash on Wednesday, followed by tilts with Worcester, Tabor, Exeter, Andover, Dean, Quincy High, and ending with the Yale game on November 19.

A possible line-up for the University team this fall, based on last year's Freshman and Varsity positions would find William Wemple '34 at right fullback; H. B. B. Robinson '34, left fullback; T. F. Waters '33, right half; R. E. Eaton '34, centre half; J. S. Coleman '35, left half; Captain Schumacher, right outside; D. C. Clos '35, right inside; R. M. Gummere '34, centre, forward; G. F. Stork '35, left inside; A. M. Moskin '33, left outside; with W. F. Nichols '34, Hans Von Briesen '33, and J. B. England '35, alternating as goalie.H. H. BROADBENT '32 captain and star of last year's Varsity soccer team. He is assisting Coach Carr this season.
