The Crimson will open its first Freshman competitions for the news, business, and photographic boards and its first Sophomore competition for the editorial board at a preliminary meeting on Wednesday evening at 7.30 o'clock at the Crimson building. The following article, by the Business Manager, describes the work of his department.
The competition for the CRIMSON business board is open to all members of the class of '37 who are interested in the business world of today. Seldom in the past quarter century has the business world offered better opportunity for interesting observations and contacts. With the entire country in the throes of an industrial struggle for existence, the small man and the large find themselves seeking deeper than ever before for the real causes of their condition. It is for the college men who wish to find a practical as well as a parlor answer to this condition that the CRIMSON competition exists.
During the first few weeks of the competition, the candidate will work under the personal supervision of an experienced editor. In this period he will be expected to learn the routine methods of procedure. Later he will be judged almost entirely on the originality he shows in meeting the needs of his clients. A major aim of the competition is to have candidates meet and know the business men of Harvard Square and Boston.
No experience is necessary for this competition. All Freshmen who are willing and eager to learn more of the powerful economic forces in play in their everyday life are cordially invited to learn the details of this competition at its first meeting, Wednesday evening at 7.30 o'clock.
