Washington, Feb. 12--The mightiest voices in organized labor late today demanded that the Senate Appropriations Committee preserve the prevailing wage amendment under fire new in the Administration's $4,880,000,000 works bill.

Twenty four hours after they had smoked the pipe of peace with President Roosevelt at the White House, the powerful executive council of the American Federation of Labor faced the Senatorial group to insist upon an amendment known to be obnoxious to the chief executive.
