Vernon H. Struck '38 of Centralia, Illinois, has been awarded the Francis H. Burr Scholarship, the Committee on Scholarships announced today.
A graduate of Centralia Township High School, Struck has been on the Deans' List since Freshman year. He is a member of the Varsity football team and captain of Varsity basketball, as well as a member of the Student Council, the Senior Album Committee, and chairman of the Adams House Committee.
The Burr Scholarship, established in 1914 in memory of Francis H. Burr '09, by his friends, is awarded each year to a senior who "combines as nearly as possible Burr's remarkable qualities of character, leaderships, scholarship, and athletic ability."
The recipient is selected by the Dean of the College and the Chairman of the Athletic Committee, and receives the gift in his fourth year, together with a copy of the memorial life of Burr.
Last year, Charles W. Kessler '37, of Salem, an honor student, a member of the football team and the Student Council, received the award.
Other recent recipients have been Robert C. Hall '36, of Bsenklina a member of the track team, the Student Council, the CRIMSON, and Phi Beta Kappa; Chester K. Litman' '35, of Brookline, a member of the football and track teams and a high ranking student; the late Richard G. Ames '34 of Wayland, president of the Student Council and captain of the wrestling team; and William Barry Wood, Jr. '32, of Milton, captain of the football team.
