With forces poorly organized but marshalled by Lev White, the Varsity basketball team romped over the Brown quintet 53-28 in a non-League game which followed the Freshman encounter in the Indoor Athletic Building last Saturday.

Captain Gray, although he lagged far behind in scoring, led the Crimson passing attack which pressed consistently organized play in late rallies of the Bruins Next to White, Red Lowman and McGowan led in tallies for the home team while Burbank and Clements out-pointed their teammates in the Brown five.

Backed up by the defense of Lupe Lupien and Vernon Struck, the forward Feslermen started out strong, amassing a 14 point lead over the Providence quintet by the half. Increasing their advantage in the second period, Varsity seconds with Herrick at center position kept in check an attack advanced by Burbank of the Bruins.

The battle which was clearly the Crimson's in the opening period of the game seesawed at the beginning of the last when White and Lowman fought Morcom of the visitors in a sloppy drive for scores. Succeeded by Litman and McGowan, the hoopsters began an onslaught which bowled over the Brown and showed no sign of losing its force before the final whistle.

Weakness in the center of the Providence five enabled the Feslermen to direct their charges down the middle of the court and supported by a strong defense keep the ball in foreign territory. Since long shots were unnecessary even when the visitors went wild towards the end in a series of long passes, the Crimson team chalked up most points in close skirmishes below the net.

As the result of an early burst of speed and co-ordination in which the home team piled up a comfortable advantage, Freshman hoopsters held off a second period Brain attack to win 45-40 in a preliminary game.

The Varsity summary: HARVARD (53)  BROWN (28) White, l.f.  r.f., Kennedy Lowman, r.f.  l.f., Morcom Gray, c.  c., Chichester Struck, r.g.  l.g., Sharkey Lupien, l.g.  r.g., Clements
