Law School Offers $500 Reward For Information About Burgess

Reward Announcement Issued On 70,000 Posters in Seventh Week of Absence

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Five hundred dollars has been offered as a reward by the Law School for information leading to the discovery of F. William Burgess, first year Law Student who has been missing since November 13, it was learned yesterday.

70,000 printed leaflets announcing the reward and bearing information about Burgess are being distributed through Federal channels. The decision to offer the reward and announce it through the facilities of the Federal Bureau of Investigation was reached just before the Christmas vacation.

Inter-State Offence Seen

Federal intervention in the case of Burgess of whom no trace has been discovered since November, the day when his coat was discovered neatly folded on a Charles River bridge is based on the assumption that an inter-state crime is connected with his disappearance.

The leaflet bears his picture, a physical description and a dentist's chart of his teeth. Anyone having information as to Burgess' whereabouts is told to communicate with Edward W. Fallon, Boston police official. To the left of the photograph is a facsimile of Burgess' handwriting, the end of a letter which he wrote to his mother, reading "Love to you and Father, (signed) Bill."

Cambridge police have also issued a poster seeking information. In it he is described as "five feet eight inches tall, weighs one hundred and seventy pounds, ruddy complexion, brown wavy hair, perfect teeth, black eyebrows, long black eyelashes, usually smiling. He has a small irregular scar on lower part of abdomen. He is very good looking and a neat dresser. When last seen he had on a blue flannel coat and gray trousers.

"Please post this notice and have search made at all hospitals and institutions as there was no apparent reason for his disappearance." It is signed by Timothy F. Leahy, Chief of Police.
