Henry L. Shattuck '01, upon his resignation as treasurer of the University, will succeed the late Thomas N. Perkins '81 as a Fellow of the College, officials announced today.
Effective on April 4 is the appointment of William H. Claflin, Jr., '15 to fill the position held by Shattuck since 1929, with the latter assuming his new position at the same time. Names of both men were submitted yesterday by the Board of Overseers at a regular meeting.
Claflin was a former partner of the Boston investment firm of Tucker, Anthony, & Co. and was president of the Boston Stock Exchange from 1935-6. Graduated from the Law School in 1904, Shattuck had been a lawyer and legislator in Boston for many years and is now a member of the Boston City Council from Ward 5.
Curator of Southeastern Archaeology at the Peabody Museum from 1928-32, Claflin has held an honorary position in connection with this department since 1932. During the War he served as a captain in the 302d Field Artillery, 1917-19, while in college he was a member of the Student Council and captain of the hockey team.
