Coach Ulen Opens Practice With 25 Tankmen on Squad

Early Start Expected to Give Crimson Jump on Yale and Princeton

Twenty-five Varsity swimmers answered the call to the first official practice in the pool as Coach Hal Ulen brought his series of conditioning exercises to a close and started work for the 1939-40 swimming season.

Mentor Ulen hopes to get the jump on strong Princeton and Yale squads by this early start, Last year's Varsity swimmers didn't enter the pool until after the Yale football game.

Captain Eric Cutler will lead the swimmers into the first meet on December 15, when the mermen tangle with a strong alumni contingent led by such former swimming luminaries as Charley Hutter, "Pop" Cummin, and Rusty Greenhood.

Other Varsity tankmen likely to see a good deal of action this winter are Jim Curwen, Frannie Powers, Art Bosworth, and Jack Waldron.
