D' Autremont, Penson Star as Crimson Booters Lose to Undefeated Princeton

Tigers Outplay Visitors in 2-0 Victory; Mendel Unable To Get Started

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Although they held the superior Tiger soccer team scoreless for entire first half, a fighting team of Crimson booters, led by goalie Jack Pension and left half Charley d'Autroment, were unable to prevent the Princeton team from scoring once in each of the last two frames to win, 2 to 0, at Tiger town Saturday morning.

Captain Howie Mendel, still playing with two bum knees, was unable to function effectively as the Nassan eleven, playing with almost perfect passing and shooting, extended their undefeated streak to six games.

D'Autremont Star

Charley d'Autremont played the best game of the career in the futile attempt to stop the Tiger onslaught. On two separate occasions he and Bill Edgar made hairbreadth saves of shots at the Crimson goal when Penson had been thrown to the ground in the melee.

Pension played his best game of the year in holding the Princeton forward to two goals. One of these was scored by Bud Robie, the Tiger right outside, all-American last year and brother of Ted Robie, former Harvard star after a spectacular triple pass from Bob Goheen to Pet Powell to Robie. The other came on a boot by Goheen, inside left, who took a pass from Ted Richardson.

The Princeton team outplayed the Crimson throughout the game, never being threatened and constantly peppering the Harvard goal with hard shots.

Freshmen Lose 2-1

The Crimson Freshmen finished up a dismal day by losing to Worecester Academy, 2 to 1. Horkey Herskovits, leading scorer for the Yardlings, made their lone score on a difficult shot in the third period.

Nelson made both the Worcester goals as the '43 booters played under their standard of the past three weeks.

Springfield Next

Next Saturday the Varsity meets another undefeated team in Springfield. This game will have an important effect in the League standings as Springfield, with no tough opponents on their schedule, will end the season undefeated unless stopped by the Crimson.

After Springfield come Brown and Yale on successive week ends. The Eli record is also unblemished except for a 3 to 3 tie with Amherst.
