WINTHROP GRIDMEN TOP DEACONS IN LAST TILT

Puritans End Undefeated Season With 7-0 Win--Leverett Gains Tie With Once-Beaten Dudley

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Maintaining their undefeated and untied record at the expense of a strong Kirkland team, Winthrop yesterday afternoon came out on the long end of a 7 to 0 score in its final game before the Yale match.

Leverett, at the same time, rose to the occasion and tied Dudley 0 to 0 as Ernie Sargeant, Varsity player who was forced to retire yesterday on account of headaches, led the cheering and served as water boy.

Win on Blocked Punt

The Puritans won their game on a blocked punt, the fourth time that they have gained victory this way. Joe Peden broke through the Deacon line in the third quarter to knock down a punt and Ham Daughaday proceeded to fall on the ball on the eight-yard line. From there George Dreher carried it over.

With the exception of this one series of plays, the game was even, with neither team able to gain through the other's line. There were no other scoring threats.

Sam Binnian, Ted Cahn, and Daughaday were outstanding in the Winthrop line, with Peden and Dreher starring in the backfield.

Bunny Offense Clicks

Leverett has won only one game and Dudley has lost but one; yet the Bunnies finally made their offense click, and captained by Wily Willy Tyng, they put on a real show of power.

Dudley made only one threat, in the first quarter, when they took the ball to within ten yards of the Leverett goal. Leverett, aided by seven pass-interceptions, spent most of the afternoon in Dudley territory.

Dave Kemper at end and 130-pound Harry Blaine at guard were prominent in the Bunny line, while Murray Halpern, John Santosuosso, Ed Wall, and Arny Regal starred for the Commuters.
