GAUNTLET THROWN BY PRESIDENT OF CATHOLIC TRUTH SOCIETY

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Granville Hicks denied last night having received a challenge which had allegedly been sent to him, asking him to defend his stand as an exponent of Communism in public debate.

The challenge came from the Reverend Edward Lodge Curran, President of the International Catholic Truth Society, who said in his letter to Hicks, "I am opposed to any form of dictatorship in the United States, whether it be a dictatorship from the right or a dictatorship from the left."

He offered to supply a hall and provide Hicks with as many tickets as he will need for his "friends and followers" for a debate with him on the subject: "Resolved; That Communism is the enemy of American Democracy," of course, the Rev. Mr. Curran would take the affirmative side of the issue.

When asked last night for his answer to the challenge, Hicks said he rad received no such letter.
