Kirkland Leads In House Track Meet

Kirkland House took an early lead in the Inter-House Track Meet suaring two first places and a second yesterday afternoon on Soldiers Field. The cold caused the cancellation of all the running events until Monday so that only the shot put, high jump, and broad jump were held.

Two records fell in the course of the afternoon as 44 men turned out for the annual affair. John Harlow, John Addington, and Lunine of Kirkland heaved the shot for a winning total of 125 feet, 8 inches, bettering the previous mark set by their housemates in 1938 by almost three feet, with Lowell and Adams finishing second and third.

The Deacons smashed the existing high jump record set by Leverett last year with a total of 15 feet, 10 1/2 inches, as they copped the second straight event, Sam Summers leading the field with a mark of 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches. Again Lowell was second with the Gold Coasters third.

In the broad jump the Bellboys finally cracked through the Kirkland defense and grabbed first with a total distance of 50 feet, 5 inches. Robinson Murray's leap of 18 feet, 2 1/2 inches topped all others and was the major factor in winning the event.
