TRUST FOR HARVARD FORBIDS TOLERATING OF COMMUNISM

Expressing the hope that a $1,250,000 trust set up for Harvard and M. I. T. would not benefit any institution countenancing the teaching of Communism, the will of Caroline J. Adams was recently read and disputed in Suffolk Probate Court.

Mrs. Adams wrote that "hardly any college seems free of the taint" of bolshevism; and deploring this "subversive" tendency, she provided that her gift not be used by universities allowing this movement. One-half the estate was to be divided by M. I. T. and by the Harvard Medical School for deserving students.

The trusts are being contested on the grounds that the donor was not "sound of mind." University officials yesterday declined to comment until definite knowledge of the bequest was discovered; the Treasurer's office has apparently been unable to ascertain if the money was ever received or not.
