PRESIDENT LOWELL ENDORSES PETITION AGAINST GAMBLING

A. Lawrence Lowell '77, President-Emeritus of Harvard, is among the group of distinguished persons who filed an application for a charter for an anti-gambling organization with Henry F. Long, state commissioner of corporations and taxation.

The purpose of the supposed group, which would be known as "The Citizens Committee of Massachusetts, Inc." would be to "Inform the citizens of the state concerning the pari-mutual system of betting and to encourage in initiative or referendum regarding pari-mutual botting in Massachusetts.
