NETMEN START SEASON AT COLUMBIA AND PENN

EVENLY BALANCED TEAM SHOULD WIN BOTH CONTESTS

Jack Barnaby's Varsity tennis team begins its season this weekend when it takes on Columbia and Pennsylvania, both away from home.

Entirely a veteran aggregation, the Harvard team should win both these matches without much difficulty. Despite the fact that the Crimson has had less than a week of outdoor practice its form to date has been encouraging, and previous Varsity experience will be a telling factor in the matches this Friday and Saturday.

At Columbia, the number one singles match, between Captain Dave Burt of Harvard and the Lion's Persinger, should prove very interesting. Harvard has too much strength down the line, however, for the outcome of the match to be in doubt.

Saturday afternoon's encounter with Pennsylvania will supply Coach Barnaby with considerably more worries. Last year's top singles match, which saw Burt eke out an extra set triumph over Isadore Bellis at the Divinity Courts, kept the stands on edge. Bellis, one of the outstanding younger players in the East, will be after blood this year when he meets Burt on his home courts.

Besides Burt, Langdon Gilkey, last year's captain, Johnny Palfrey, Jack Stewart, Chet Legg, Corey Wynn, Ross Lyell, and Jack Westheimer will make the trip. All save Lyell and Westheimer are Seniors.
