Kirkland Gains Undisputed Inter-House Sports Laurels

Bellboy's Hardball Defeat by Adams Clinches Strans Trophy for Deacons

Kirkland was assured of its second successive victory in the Straus Trophy race as Adams knocked Lowell, the last House with the slightest chance to upset the Deacons, out of the running with a 9 to 4 hardball triumph on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bellboys went into the final week of competition with but a slim chance to catch the pace setting Deacons, and Wednesday's defeat made a Lowell final win a mathematical impossibility.

Either a Lowell defeat or a Kirkland victory in any of their remaining contests would have decided the trophy race, and the Bellboys bowed out of the fight quickly by losing their first crucial game. Lowell had a 20 point load over Kirkland at the half-way mark in the standings, but Kirkland successes in spring sports wiped out this margin.
