Calls For Student Peace Protest To Defeat Lend-Lease Program

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Blasting President Roosevelt's Lend-Lease program as a "war powers" bill, the New England American Student Union today issued a statement calling for the mobilization of peace forces among all students in a drive to "save peace now."

"The bill would give the President, the power to place our 'entire army and navy equipment' in the war, to make the Atlantic coast a theatre of war by opening our harbors to the British navy, and to disregard 'all existing legislation with which it comes into conflict'," the statement reads.

It concentrates "unprecedented control in the hands of a man who today can only say, 'they do not need American men'. The bill is a direct affront to the American people who have so often demonstrated their desire for peace" and can be regarded "in no other light than as a declaration of war and as establishing a military dictatorship."

Convinced that the bill can be defeated, the Student Union called on students to demonstrate their opposition by "passing resolutions in their clubs, organizotions, dormitories and classrooms. Write letters to your Congressmen and to your President."
