Plan E Committee headquarters last night kept an official silence on the results of the first day's ballot-counting, but individual members "in the know" disclosed that their endorsed candidates had the inside track over most of the others running for City Council.

Ex-Mayer John D. Lynch, John H. Corcoran '18., Russell Gerould '20. Mareus Morton, Jr. '21 L. And A. John Serene, who have all received the blessings of Dean Landis in this campaign, are among the nine men leading the field so far. Acting Mayor Francis L. Sennott is top ma with 2519 first-choice votes, followed by Lynch and Corcoran.

Under the complicated P.R. system, a quota is established form the number of valid voice polled, and once a candidate has received enough to fill this quota, the rest of his votes automatically are distributed among the second choices marked on the ballots. Thus none are wasted.

Memorial Hall, which is being used as the public counting place, is a madhouse of certified public accountants, summer able clerke, curious citizens, and sharp eyed candidates watching that no mistakes are made.

Many good ballots showed that some voters failed to avail themselves of the privilege of voting for nine Council candidates, only four or five being marked. On other ballots, however, painstaking Cantabrigians went through the process of listing the entire 80 names in order of performance. A remarkably low percentage of invalid ballots was noticed by officials.
