Showing themselves to be a well-balanced team, strong in all divisions, the Varsity fencers rolled up 72 1/2 points, one of the highest totals ever amassed, to win the Pentagonals held last Saturday at Princeton, New Jersey.

In the first event, the foil, the swordsmen took the first-place cup for the second time, having won it two years when the members of this team were Sophomores. To do this, the team took 26 out of a possible 36 bouts. Ben Johnson starred for the Crimson, by winning 11 of his 12 bouts, thereby taking the individual foil title. The event was marked by a totally unexpected upset when the foilers won 6 to 3 from the same Army team that had beaten them two weeks before 8 to 1.

The second competition, the saber, saw the Crimson once again take first place by winning 25 out of a possible 36 bouts. Tom Wright, ably supported by Win Alberts and Bob Batt, won 11 of his 12 bouts and took individual honors in this event.

Led by Lynn Brua, the Crimson took second place behind Navy in the epee. In this event, as in the preceding two, the fencers started off slowly, losing to Yale 5 1/2 to 3 1/2, but came up fast and won their last two matches against Army and Princeton, 7 to 2.
