VARSITY BOOTERS WILL MEET M.I.T.

Soccer Team is Favored Over Undergod Tech Eleven

Hoping to offset their defeat at the hands of the Princeton Tigers last Saturday, the Varsity booters will take on an underdog M.I.T. eleven on the soccer field behind the Business School at the new time of 3:30 instead of 4 o'clock as originally scheduled.

Toch has been defeated several times this season and is therefore a distinct underdog, but the booters have taken no chances of losing through overconfidence as they prepare for the contest.

With wins over Tufts and Clark, losses to Springfield and Princeton, and a tie with Army behind them the team hopes to put the ledger into the black this afternoon. Led by Captain and All-New England forward Dick Gifford the team will go into the fray with a strong attack and a greatly improved defense.

In Saturday's beating at the hands of the Orange and Black the fullbacks, Dick Forster and Ward Slingerland, showed their ability to stop the strong Tiger attack time after time. Behind them goalie Mike Keene, who is playing his first year of soccer, knocked down the princeton tries with the coolness of a veteran.

Will Bank on Offense

But the Crimson squad hopes that it will not need the services of its defensive men too often if the forward line sparked by Gifford and shot-artist Thayer Drako can keep the ball in Tech territory most of the time. The rest of the powerful Crimson forward wall will include Eli Berman at left outside and Jack Calhoun, center forward.

One of the factors that has caused the Harvard eleven to be favored in today's game is the recent defeat of the Tech team at the hands of the Medford High School aggregation, which beat the Freshmen by the score of 2-0 early in the season.

The Varsity squad's next game will be with Massachusetts State on Saturday afternoon. The team will entrain for Amherst, where the game is to be played, at 5 o'clock Saturday morning.
