Scout Stahl Reports Power of Penn Team

Kuczinski and Stiff Impress Coach Most

By Burton VAN Vort

Floyd Stahl scouted Pennsylvania last week in its game with the Georgia Pre-Flight cadets and has come back in ecstacles over the Quaker team. According to the assistant Varsity coach, Penn has a "whale of a ball club, even better than last year's."

The two men that impressed Stahl most were Captain Bernard Kuczynski and the hard-driving fullback, Bert Stiff. "Kuz" has started every game at end since he won a regular berth in the first game of his Sophomore year. Weighing better then 190 pounds and six feet one inch tall, he is a virtual certainty for All-American honors, in addition to being both a pitcher and an outfielder on the baseball squad. "He should give us a few headaches," was Stahl's cryptic summation of "Kuzs" capabilities.

Stiff Stars

Bert Stiff is even better than Kuczynski if that's possible. Scoring seven touchdowns last season, he is regarded by the Red and Blue as the greatest fullback in Quaker football history. "He should give us a few headaches, too," Stahl added. Floyd passed over the fact that the rest of the team has lettermen deep in practically every position.

Yesterday's practice was highlighted by passing drill and a light scrimmage. Jack Comeford, a September Freshman who has yet to attend a class at Harvard, looked good, particularly in his role as pass defender. Jack is the lad who throw the only successful pass for the Crimson in the last Saturday's North Carolina pre-Flight game for a gain of nine yards.

Lazzare Good Runner

Paul Lazzaro, playing wingback on the B eleven, also did a good job in his "round-the-end" sweeps, Lazzaro's style of play is very much like that of the tried and tested Cleo O'Donnell; smart, shiftly, hard to pin down once he gets going.
