Quintet Routed at Pennsylvania, 47-37

Falling irreparably behind in the most disastrous first half they have participated in this season, the Varsity basketball team, by a score of 47-37, dropped its second league start in a row to Pennsylvania Saturday night in Philadelphia.

The score at the half read 26 to 9, and Penn's lead was too much a potent rally by the Harvard second team in the third quarter. A dislocated finger suffered by Captain Bunks Burditt after the first ten minutes of play damaged the Crimson cause right off the bat. However, Sophomore Dick Forster, playing in his home town, did a beautiful job of filling the high-scoring, captain's shoes.

Penn Starts Fast

Pennsylvania's attack, led by the sharp-shooting of veteran guard Larry Davis and forward Chink Crossin, who totaled 22 points between them before the evening was over, overwhelmed the slow starting Crimson. Coach Earl Brown's team couldn't seem to hit the basket that half.

It took a quintet composed of the younger members of the squad, four players from last year's Freshman team --Dean Hennessey, Mike Keene, Frank Bixler, and Forster--plus a '46 guard, Mal Moley, to bring Harvard back into the game.

Rally Yields 15 Points

A scoring rally, participated in by each one of these men, netted around 15 points and brought the Varsity somewheres near the Quakers. But that immense first half handicap proved too much.

Burditt got back into the game with his finger bandaged, but it hindered his shooting with his left hand from the pivot and the Penn captain, Chuck Viguens, bottled him up by playing him to the right. This left the brunt of the attack on Dean Hennessey, who scored nine points. Other leading scorers for Harvard were Dick Forster with six points, Hugh Hyde, and Mike Fausler, who made five each. The Harvard summary:   G  F  P Hennessey, lf  4  1  9 Bixler, lf  1  0  2 Axon, lf  0  1  1 Dillon, rf  0  0  0 Burditt, c  1  2  4 Forster, c  3  0  6 Hyde, lg  2  1  5 Keene, lg  1  0  2 Fansler, rg  2  1  5 Moley, rg  1  1  8 Totals  15  7  37
