Students taking more than seven meals a week in the College dining halls will be required to turn their War Ration Book No. 2 in to the various dining halls, the regional OPA office in Boston announced yesterday.
The OPA said that the individual dining rooms will be responsible for collecting the books, and that in all probability periodic checkup will be carried out by inspectors from that office. Aldrich Durant '08, business manager of the University, had no comment to make on the agency's decision, but stated that he had not yet taken action on the matter, as no official directive had been received in Lehman Hall. He added, however, that as soon as some official word was received, he was prepared to take any "necessary step."
To Act as Check
By the ruling, Harvard is included under the sections relating to "institutions," which includes all hotels and boarding houses. Collections of the point rationing stamps will not be for redemption by the various dining halls for food, but will merely act as a check that no one person gets a double allotment of the scarce foods.
The food rationing office emphasized the fact that students who go home for weekends should be able to bring their books out, so as to put no strain on family larders.
