A Beaver's Tale

By Midshipman E. T. long

The editor of H. S. N. gave us a quick promotion to ensign last week, for which we thank him. Not only he, but also the Bureau's mailing department has come through with a paper promotion to one striper. But the most important personage around here, i.e., the disbursing officer, still has us midshipmen classified as such, so the honor, along with our wallets, is rather an empty one. . . .

They're faced with a tremendous task, both financial and editorial, but the respective staffs of the junior and senior class books, "The Rough Roll" in each instance, seem to thrive on the extra work. Co-editing the junior book, which will make its appearance some time in May, are Midn. H. M. Anderson and Ens. E. K. Houser. Anderson was in journalism at Ohio Wesleyan University, while Houser had his training at Carleton College. Ens. Jack Morrill, also a Carleton graduate, handles the financial problems as business manager.

Assisting these three men are A. L. Johnson and O. D. Teaff, for photographers, Gordon Chamberlain, artist, and M. L. Hunt, office aide. Class representatives are F. D. N. Biello; G. M. L. Hunt; H. Howard Johnson; I. T. L. Johnson; J. W. G. Phoenix; and K. Editor E. K. Houser.

A plea has been made for snapshots of any activities from junior class members. These printes should be submitted to the editorial offices, which are located on 3rd deck, Sherman Hall.

Of more immediate interest, because of its imminent publication date, is "The Rough Roll" of the senior class. According to Editor J. E. Jackson, it will appear "shortly before March 20th." Jackson is an old hand at editing class books, having been responsible for the annual at Ohio Wesleyan University when he was an undergraduate. He has also had several years' experience with a commercial book manufacturer in Tennessee.

J. E. Jones is business manager of the senior book and R. E. Gifford is the managing editor. The former received his journalistic experience while an undergraduate at Harvard, and the latter is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Journalism.

Paul Findley and John Wolf are the photographic assistants and Charles Barrett aided the business department.

The unusual feature of the book, which was printed by Boston's Warren Press, is the scrapping of several score "inanimate" views of Harvard, which have been used in other books, and the substitution of more than 125 snapshots.

Lt. G. L. Ambrose is the able faculty director of both the junior and senior "Rough Rolls. . . .

Thought of the Week: when a ship has been torpedoed and is going to the bottom, wouldn't the disbursing officer's safe become a "sinking fund?" . . .
