Eleven Will Oppose B.C., Tufts; Stahlmen Whip Holy Cross, 4-0
Worcester Included In Three-Game Card
Schedules for informal sports during the fall season were announced yesterday by Carroll F. Getchell, director of the Harvard Athletic Association. Included in the report were lists of contests for the Varsity football team, the football "B" team, the soccer squad, and the cross country aggregation.
Three games, all in October, have already been arranged for the eleven, and Getchell stated that contests will be scheduled after final examinations if opponents can be found. The Crimson will face Tufts on the gridiron on September 16, Worcester Polytechnic Institute on September 30 and Boston College on October 7, all of these meetings being on Saturday afternoons at Soldiers Field.
Travelling away from home for two contests with prep school rivals, the "B" squad will take the place of a Freshman eleven in traditional games at Exeter, on September 23, and at Andover, on October 7. The second team will in addition play the Tufts "B" squad at Soldiers Field on September 30.
Three Soccer Matches
The soccermen also face a three match schedule. Opening on September 30 at home against Worcester the booters travel to Andover for their second engagement on October 7, and finish with a post-exam game against Tufts here on November 18. The cross country schedule includes meets with Worcester, Tufts, and M.I.T.
Informal games with nearby opponents are the rule for all Crimson teams for the duration. Reduction in the number of students, the accelerated academic schedule, a greatly reduced coaching staff, and government requests not to travel are the reasons for the wartime suspension of formal Harvard athletics.
