Dances, Plays, Punch Usher in House-Wide Christmas Festivities

Christmas spirit reigns throughout the University during the next week, with Yuletide festivities planned in every House for the first time since 1940.

Opening the holiday season tomorrow evening, Kirkland House will sponsor the only formal dance to take place this month. The same night, the Gold Coasters plan a presentation of a play entitled "Room Service," followed by two hours of dancing.

Dunster's Funsters, still smarting from the House Master's banning of their original Christmas play on the grounds of "taste," are busily rehearsing a substitute variety skit. Impromptu entertainment and dancing will conclude the evening. Lowell will limit its activities to a House smoker tomorrow night, with a promise to residence of "Loads of beer, singing, frolic, and fun, to make this Christmas a joyous one."

Tea dancing on Saturday afternoon to the music of Georgie Graham will be the highlight of Leverett House's yuletide celebration. Also in the offing is a mulled rum punch planned for Thursday. December 19, with female guests invited for dancing and entertainment.

Ben Jonson's "Bartholomew Faire," an unexpurgated tale of mores and manners in Elizabethan England, is now in rehearsal for the annual Eliot House Christmas party next Wednesday night. Ted Allegretti '47 serves as director of the cast of 25 student thespians and three faculty members.

Completing the week of festivities, Winthrop residents will gather around their Christmas tree one week hence to hear President Conant deliver his traditional holiday message. Caroling, led by Glee Club members residing in the House, will follow his talk.
