Adams House Holds Special By-Election
First stops in a precedent-setting special Student Council election will be taken at 6 o'clock tonight in Adams House dining hall when a quorum of the House will nominate a slate of men to compete for a Council post recently vacated by the resignation of William H. Bayliss '46.
Student Council President Edric A. Weld '46 and John K. Lally '49, chairman of the committee in charge of the special election, will be present at the meeting tonight and explain to the House the functions of a Council member.
The Student Council Constitution, adopted last year, provides that the runner-up moves automatically into a vacated post. In this instance, however, all runners-up were either ineligible or declined the appointment, listing increased academic pressure or other extracurricular activities as their reasons for turning down the post.
Lally, who disclosed last night that all nominations must be made at tonight's meeting, stated that this special election is unprecedented. He added that he is now working on a by-law to the Council charter that would provide for any similar occurrences in the future.
