To the Editors of the CRIMSON:

I write this having just seen the Union's presentation of "Meet John Doe." The infantile reaction of the "Intelligent Harvard men" present leaves me in a state of mental nausea.

The picture even though it was over dramatized and "corny" to a great extent, was still nonetheless an honest attempt to portray the American ideals of faith in the common man and love of country. Yet because it was this it was jeered from beginning to end.

What is the purpose of education if not to help point out that there are ideals that exist and are worth respecting? If the scoffers who were present at the picture are representative of Harvard then it is no wonder that the University has been often labelled the producer of intellectual snobs and sophisticated boors.

A realistic attitude on life is fine, but life itself is empty without some faith in God, in people and in one's ideals.   Thomas R. Mylott '50
