Howie Schless' debut as freshman wrestling coach came off without a hitch as his team won its first match of the season against M.I.T.'s freshmen by a comfortable margin of 26 to 8 in the Indoor Athletic Building just before the Varsity meet.

Dave Smith in 126, Jim Knight in 175, and Heiny Dunker in Unlimited all won by pins as the Yardlings swamped the spotty Techmen. Jim Fulton won by a forfelt in 121 while acting captain Al Abboud at 123 and Andre Sigourney in 155 took decisions. 165-pounder Doug Campbell lost a decision, and Al Huberman at 136 was pinned.
