When the rifle team completed its schedule last week, it closed the books on the best season in recent years with wins in eight out of 12 matches, and a tie for fourth place in the New England College Rifle League with Vermont.

Captain Louis Gerstley '45 proved the big gun in the squad's attack with a scoring average of 274.9 to place eighth in league competition and win team scoring laurels. William W. Dunn '46 and Richard F. Porter '50 were second and third high men.

Lose Only Four

Dropping matches only to Yale, Coast Guard, Brown, and MIT, the riflemen beat Bowdoin, Rhode Island State, Massachusetts State, New Hampshire, Chicago, Worcester Polytechnic, Vermont, and Norwich.

Highlight of the season was an upset match over Vermont which the Crimson team won by a score of 1361 to 1350.

David Knight '50 has been named captain for next season, replacing Gerstley. James Beverly '47 will serve as manager. Other lettermen on the squad are Neal Small '45, Royal A. Elfast '50, and Nathaniel C. Nash, IV, '45.
